Position Overview

Production laborer is under the direct supervision of the production manager. This position safely performs a wide range tasks in the dough production area, sorting area and the packaging area.  Follow standard work methods and practice safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.

Essential Functions

Dough Production Area
  • Must be capable of standing for long periods up to 6 – 8 hours while performing the duties of this position. Also requires adjusting feet, and continually maneuvering around machines and equipment.
  • Must be able to use hands to grasp 5-10 pound objects continually throughout the work cycle.
  • Must be able to twist and move torso to lift, load, and unload 5-10 pound pans from machines and product racks.
  • Requires maneuvering and locating 600 pound racks of uncooked dough in front of cooking ovens, and once fully baked, racks will be transported to locations in front of cooling fans.
  • Transporting heavy objects up to 1300 pounds utilizing pallet jacks and movable racks will be required.
  • Must be able to perform in high heat and extreme cold working conditions as well as in a prolonged noise environment.
  • Requires frequent washing and sanitizing of machines to remove product residue.
  • Must properly wear and use safety equipment at all times and adhere to established company safety standards.
Sorting Area
  • Must be capable of standing for long periods up to 6 – 8 hours performing the duties of this job.
  • Must be able to use fingers and hands continually to efficiently sort through products.
  • Must be able to use arms, hands, and shoulders to grasp and lift 5-10 pound trays.
  • Must be able to twist and move torso to lift, load and unload 5-10 pound pans from machines and racks.
  • Requires utilizing pallet jacks and moveable racks to transport heavy objects exceeding 1300 pounds from baking ovens and sorting areas.
  • Must be able to perform in high heat and extreme cold areas as well as work in a prolonged noise environment.
  • Must properly wear and use safety equipment while adhering to established company safety standards.
Packaging Area
  • Must be capable of standing for long periods up to 6 – 8 hours while performing the duties of this job.
  • Must be able to lift 5-10 pound trays filled with products and dump contents of into the sorting hopper.
  • Must have the ability to maneuver up and down steps frequently.
  • Requires using fingers and hands to package single bags into cartons or cases.
  • Must be able to remove 10 pound cases from the machines and continually stack on pallets.
  • Requires transporting heavy objects weighing up to 1100 pounds to and from staging areas utilizing pallet jacks.
  • Must be able to perform in high heat and extreme cold areas as well as work in a prolonged noise environment.
  • Must properly wear and use safety equipment and adhere to established company safety standards.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) or
  • 3-6 months of experience working in a food related field, manufacturing industry, an industrial setting, construction, or farming or
  • Letter of Recognition for volunteering for at least 3-6 months

Core Competencies

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
  • Basic personal computer skills
